Job Responsibilities:
Under general supervision of the Technology Services Manager.  Perform various duties related to the position.  Assist staff with a wide variety of computer issues.  Provide “help desk” services to patrons with their technology needs.  Develop and participate in technology based events and classes.  Relay any hardware or software problems to the Technology Services Manager.  Accomplish other duties or projects as assigned by the Technology Services Manager.  

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required.  Previous library experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to successfully troubleshoot hardware, software, and audio visual equipment related problems.  Extremely proficient with a variety of mobile devices.   Extensive knowledge of Advanced PC and various software programs are required.  Extensive experience with PCs, scanners and printers.  Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to work with various types of people, explaining technical information in a non-technical easy to understand manner.   Knowledge of library practices and procedures.  Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written). Good time management skills.  Ability to work independently.  Ability to handle the physical aspects of sitting, standing, moving, bending, stretching and lifting up to 35 pounds.

40%  Technology Specialist Duties

  • Assist the public and staff with a broad range of technology topics, including but not limited to:  mobile devices, apps, Windows, streaming and digital media, software, hardware, presentations, printing and document management.
  • Assist with trouble shooting, repairing, updating, and maintaining staff and public computers.
  • Participate in the development of new systems to provide greater technology service to staff members and public.
  • Perform scheduled routine tasks as assigned, such as back-ups, upgrades, and monitoring of library systems and inventory.
  • Assist with the support of library systems including Envisionware, DeepFreeze, LibCal, web filter, phone systems, Wi-Fi network, wiring, helpdesk, and websites.
  • Plan, schedule and prepare technology based programming on a routine basis.

15%  Meeting Room Assistance

  • Manage the LibCal room booking calendar system.
  • Assist with audio visual training and upkeep.
  • Communicate directly with support staff regarding specific room needs.

15%  Collection Management

  • Purchase and manage items for select standard and special material collections.

30% Reference Duties

  • Assist patrons in locating appropriate library materials.
  • Instruct and assist in the use of public catalogs, databases, basic internet operations ie. Login, applications and printing.
  • Perform in depth reference service.
  • Maintain current knowledge of available sources of information and public demand of reading materials.
