Job Responsibilities: To competently and in a friendly manner, assist patrons in locating library materials and information, instruct patrons in the use of reference tools, indices and computers. Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school or bachelor’s degree with significant library or comparable experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of library practices and procedures and techniques, operation of automated and manual library equipment; computer operations including data processing and extended database searching. Ability to give exemplary customer service on a regular basis. Extensive knowledge of both adult authors and books, fiction and non-fiction; past and current. Ability to lift and move books and other materials; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to help patrons with their e-devices. Plan schedule and organize work; communicate effectively in written and oral form; answer routine inquiries from the public. Be aware of needs and trends in the community and offer programming accordingly. Be aware of community resources and contacts; develop good rapport with library patrons, supervisors and co-workers.

67% Reference Duties:

  • Assist patrons in locating appropriate library materials
  • Instruct and assists in the use of public catalogs, databases, basic internet operations ie. log-in, applications & printing, and downloading of ebooks.
  • Perform in-depth reference service.
  • Assist with daily retrieval of ILL materials for SEO libraries.
  • Prepare occasional bibliographies, book lists and in-house displays.
  • Implement Library policies.
  • Plan and coordinate various library programs for the public.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

33% Programming Duties:

  • Schedule, plan and implement adult programming.
  • Refreshment table, set-up including food and coffee prep and tear down.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchenette including laundering tablecloths and towels.
  • Inventory of and replenishment of programming supplies.
  • Involvement in production of the quarterly program guide.
  • Assist other programmers with large programs.
  • Provide back-up for other programmers.
  • Write and submit press releases – create flyers and quarter sheets for programs.
  • Other programming duties as they arise.
