COVID-19 and Way Public Library: FAQs

Way Library has reopened to the public with some modifications to hours and services.  Please read this FAQ sheet carefully so you are prepared for the temporary changes in effect at your library.

Welcome back!
Way Public Library reopened on July 1st, 2020 with some modifications to hours and services. We are happy to welcome you back to your library during this phase of reopening.

What are the temporary new hours?
Monday-Wednesday 9am-7pm
Thursday 9am-8pm
Friday 9am-5pm
Saturday 11am-5pm
Closed on Sunday
Please note that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays the time from 8 - 9am is reserved for those age 60 and over and anyone who is immunocompromised.

Will visiting the library be safe for my health?
Way Library prioritizes the health and safety of our patrons and staff. Careful planning and much work has gone into creating an environment which meets stringent safety standards.

As of May 24th, 2021, vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a face covering within the building. For those uncomfortable entering the library, reasonable accommodations will include delivery of CORE library services (checkout of materials and reference service) via digital services and curbside pickup.

Though we can’t eliminate all risk, we have carefully followed recommendations from the OH Department of Health and the CDC to put rigorous safety protocols into place. They include the installation of plexiglass shields at service desks, frequent cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces, easily accessible hand-sanitizer stations, removal of some furniture to reduce congestion, modification of interior traffic patterns, and extra training for staff members.

What else can I expect?
Occupancy of the building will be limited to sixty guests at a time. The Quiet Study Room is closed to the public as it is being used to quarantine returned library materials. The lower level of the library currently hosts an ongoing Way Book Store. Meeting and Conference rooms are available for reservation; for rules and the reservation form, visit this link.

Will I be able to use a public computer?
A limited number of public computers will be available and will be sanitized regularly. Staff members will be able to assist with logging in to a computer, however, assistance with specific tasks or websites will not be available due to social distancing measures.
Computer usage is limited to an initial 60 minutes per individual per day. An extension of up to 15 minutes of additional time may be available if no other patron is waiting for a computer. Free wifi remains available throughout the building and in an area covering a large portion of the parking lot (WiFi "Heat Maps" are available here).

Can I use the printers?
Yes. Print, copy, and fax services will be available.

How can I return books, movies, and everything else I have checked out?
Exterior book drops have been open since May of 2020. When returning items to the library, please deposit them in one of the exterior book or DVD/CD drops or in the new, special book drops located just inside the library’s vestibule. The book drops at the Circulation Desk will not be available until further notice. There is a designated table in the Circulation lobby for the return of Beyond Books items, cake pans, and puzzles.

What happens to returned books?
Returned items are currently being quarantined for a minimum of seven days before they are checked in and returned to our shelves. This means there may be a delay of up to ten days before you see a returned item removed from your account. Please be assured that this delay will not result in a fine, nor will it affect your ability to check out additional items. Update: As of May 2021, returned items are placed in quarantine for a minimum of one day before check-in. You may see a delay of up to seven days before items are removed from your account.

Are you accepting book donations?
Unfortunately, the library is currently unable to accept any donations of books, DVDs, CDs, or other physical materials.

What about Story Times and community events?
All library programming including Story Times will continue to be virtual rather than in-person for the time being. Public meeting spaces in the building remain closed until further notice. Community members and groups are encouraged to sign up for a free virtual Zoom meeting room on the library’s website. Way Library’s Zoom Rooms can accommodate up to 100 participants for up to two hours.

Is Curbside Pickup Service still available?
Yes! Our contactless Curbside Service is available by appointment on our website or by calling 419-874-3135, ext 119.

What if I don’t feel comfortable about coming in to the library yet?
We understand, and we can help! You can contact us by phone at 419-874-3135 to get any answers you need. You can use our Curbside Pickup service to check out fresh reading materials.
