Way Public Library in Perrysburg, Ohio, has been ranked a Four-Star Library in the new Library Journal Index of Public Library Service. The "second round" of the LJ Index, based upon 2007 public library statistical data published by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, was released on November 15.
Way Library received its Star rating based on four per-capita service indicators: library visits, circulation, program attendance and public Internet computer uses.
With annual operating expenditures of $1.6 million, Way was ranked 19th among the 30 libraries across the country in the $1 to 5 million annual expenditure category to receive a Star rating.
Instituted by Library Journal and sponsored by Baker and Taylor’s Bibliostat Connect web-based statistical analysis software for public libraries, the Index organizes its data into star tiers much like Michelin guides. The "first round" of the new Index was released in February 2009. Of the 7,268 public libraries in the United States which were included in the Index's second round, only 258 received a 3,4 or 5-star ranking.
