Way Library recently digitized its microfilm collection of newspapers and other miscellaneous local history material. This microfilm collection can now be accessed online and electronically searched. This is a tremendous advancement over the microfilm, which lacked the searching capability of this new system. It will be a powerful new tool for those who use our local newspapers for research.
This database of local history can be accessed remotely at http://way.advantage-preservation.com A link to the site is also located on the library’s web page in the local history section. There will also be a computer in the local history room dedicated to access and print from this new electronic collection.
Here is a list of the principal materials that have been digitized:
Perrysburg Journal 1854-1965
Perrysburg Messenger 1935-1965
Perrysburg Messenger Journal 1965-2013
There is an assortment of pre-1854 Perrysburg Journal newspapers from various years as well as the Buckeye Granger, a short-lived Perrysburg newspaper which ran from 1876-1878. There are also Spafford/Perrysburg Exchange Hotel registers available to search.
The Way Library is excited to have added this new and improved research tool to the Local History Department and is ready to assist those interested in learning more about it.
