Way Library recently digitized its microfilm collection of newspapers and other miscellaneous local history material. This microfilm collection can now be accessed online and electronically searched. This is a tremendous advancement over the microfilm, which lacked the searching capability of this new system. It will be a powerful new tool for those who use our local newspapers for research.
This database of local history can be accessed remotely at http://way.advantage-preservation.com A link to the site is also located on the library’s web page in the local history section. There will also be a computer in the local history room dedicated to access and print from this new electronic collection.
In October of 2013, the Way Library Foundation began fundraising to help publish the book Village Voices: Hometown Stories of the Past. Written by Richard Baranowski, Local History Librarian, the book is a compilation of oral histories that he conducted at the library over the past ten years. The book is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2015, to coincide with Perrysburg’s Bicentennial, which will be celebrated throughout 2016.
The fundraising goal of $25,000 has been reached much quicker than anticipated. This was mainly due to a $10,000 grant generously awarded to the library from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Our goal is met! Any further monies received will be forwarded to Way Library’s facelift/remodeling fund. Thank you for your contributions.
On November 11th, 2012, Richard Baranowski participated in 13 ABC's Veteran's Day Round Table Discussion. We're very proud to have our own local history librarian be featured by a news outlet.
Other guests include Representative Marcy Kaptur, Joe Walter, and Bud Fisher.
We are so excited 13 ABC chose to spotlight a project we have enjoyed working on so much.
In collaboration with the Ohio Historical Society, the library is in the process of scanning its photograph collection and placing them in a digital archive. This archive can be accessed through our web page by library users.
Way Library’s hard copy photograph collection is also available for browsing or reproducing. This collection is located in the library’s Local History Room.
Check the collection at http://www.ohiomemory.org/way frequently. New photographs are being added weekly.
