Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall. Loosely based on Hemingway story of skipper for hire (Bogart) tangled up in World War II intrigue. This was Bogart and Bacall’s first film together and the film really comes to life in their love scenes. The Martinique setting and French Resistance plot strongly resembles Casablanca. It even has a piano player, Hoagy Carmichael. The film made Bacall an instant star.
