You can now schedule appointments with the AARP free tax assistance program by calling the library at 419-874-3135 extension 136.
Scheduling starts February 13, 2017 for the AARP Tax Preparation Program! Local AARP TaxAide volunteers will begin assisting taxpayers with their 2016 Federal, Ohio and School District tax returns starting February 20, 2017 at the Way Library.
The site will be open Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The service is provided from February 20, 2017 through April 13, 2017.
The AARP Foundation’s mission is to provide high-quality free income tax assistance and preparation to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60 and older. AARP membership is not required. Approximately 35,000 trained volunteers helped over 2.6 million taxpayers last season at over 5,000 locations nationwide. AARP Foundation TaxAide is offered in cooperation with the IRS.
Complex tax issues including depreciation, lengthy schedule Ds, casualty losses, complex K-1s, farm income, employee business expenses over $5,000, military returns, and OPERS Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) are beyond the scope of this service.
Earned Income Credits, Child Tax Credits, Unemployment Benefits, Child and Dependent Care Expenses, Education Credits, IRA Contributions, Capital Gains/Losses, Disability Income and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are all within the scope of this service.
Taxpayers must bring the following to their appointment:
- Drivers license with photo ID
- Social Security cards for yourself, your spouse and all dependents
- Last year’s tax return
- Current W2s, 1099 statements, broker tax statements, health insurance documents, plus any additional documentation they feel is pertinent.
Social Security year end statements show Medicare payment amounts and qualifies as proof of insurance for the Affordable Care Act.
