Be a Volunteer!

Way Public Library relies on volunteers to help provide a full range of services to patrons.  Volunteers to important timely work and have fun while they're doing it.  Volunteers work in the Technology Lab, and help with book sales, technical processing, fundraising, data entry and many other interesting tasks.  Just submit the online Volunteer Form to get involved! 

Here are brief descriptions of some of the volunteer positions available:

Maintenance

Job Description: Indoor: Light cleaning, dusting, setting up meeting rooms with tables and chairs. Outdoor: Mowing grass and weeding flower beds.

Job Requirements: Must be able to bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Book Sale Volunteer

Job Description: Sorting of discarded and donated books, 2-3 hours per week, hours are flexible. Assist at book sales held on an irregular basis.

Job Requirements: Much handling of books, some lifting required.

Technical Services Volunteer

Job Description: Discarding books and rebarcoding current collection.

Job Requirements: Some tasks require computer skills.

Tech Lab Volunteer

Job Description: Staff technology lab during open lab hours. Provide basic computer assistance to patrons.

Job Requirements: Requires basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office. Ohe hour training session must be attended

Computer Trainer

Job Description: Teach basic computer classes to patrons. Class outline and handouts provided by library staff.

Job Requirements: Requires ability to speak to groups, and knowledge of computers.

Foundation Volunteer

Job Description: Primarily, Foundation volunteers reach out to potential donors for contributions. Volunteer opportunities include contacting prospective contributors, assisting with special events, making phone calls, hosting informational coffees, and stuffing envelopes for mailing.

Job Requirements: Good people skills, enthusiasm for the library.

Book Buddy

Job Description: Trained volunteers are matched 1 to 1 with homebound people in Perrysburg, delivering book requests on a monthly basis. Volunteers are asked to visit once a month for a year.

Job Requirements: People skills, ability to lift a bag of books, must have the ability to pick up books at the library and deliver them to the homebound.

Local History

Job Description: Volunteer opportunities are available on a short term or long term basis; for specific projects, maintaining materials, and for additions to our collection; and among other things for copying, scanning, and computing.

Job Requirements: Heavy lifting is not required but a love of history is. A lot of the work that needs to be done does not require computer skills.

Clerical (Newsletter)

Job Description: Fold, tape and label 500 newsletters, sort and count by zip code, calculate postage.

Job Requirements: Manual dexterity, basic math skills.

Calling Book Holds

Job Description: Taking books from cubbies at circ desk and calling patrons to notify them that the books they requested are in. Returning books to cubbies (in alphabetical order) to await pick-up.

Job Requirements: Phone skills.

Shelving AV

Job Description: Reactivating (swiping over magnet) the videos & books on tape and reshelving videos, DVDs, CDs, books on tape and books on CD

Job Requirements: Basic reading skills, some bending and lifting
